Washington’s Sayvia Sellers in line for massive scoring season in 2026

Based on recent updates, Washington’s Sayvia Sellers in line for massive scoring season in 2026.

Sayvia Sellers enjoyed a career season as a junior for Washington women’s basketball, ending with first-team All-Big Ten honors from the coaches and second-team All-Big Ten honors from the media.

The Alaska native set new career highs in points, 3-pointers made and attempted, and field goals made and attempted while tying her career bests in assists and blocks as well.

Let’s review her season and look at what may still be on the horizon for the Huskies’ leading scorer.

Sellers was named third team preseason All-Big Ten alongside guard Elle Ladine, who led Washington in scoring in 2024-25. But with Ladine out for the first six games of the season due to an undisclosed injury that caused her to shoot her worst percentages since freshman year, it became clear quickly that the Huskies would go as far as Sellers would take them in 2025-26.

30 points at Utah in the third game of the year on November 15 cemented that status. 8 assists the next time out against Fresno State proved that Sellers, who averaged 3.9 assists per game last season, was still just as willing a passer despite her higher usage on offense.

That stretch earned Sellers Big Ten player of the Week and USBWA National Player of the Week, but a three-game stretch of 29, 20, and 30 points in early December against San Jose State, USC, and Green Bay saw the junior set a new career high in 3-pointers made with 7 and arguably might’ve been her best despite the lack of award recognition.

After Christmas, Sellers scored her 1,000th point against Northwestern, the 32nd player in program history to hit that mark.

On January 28, Sellers poured in 38 points against Maryland to set a new career high, including a contested layup in overtime that gave Washington the lead over the Terrapins. She became the first Huskies player since Kelsey Plum to have 35 points, 5 assists, and at least 2 steals and blocks in a single game, and was named to the Big Ten Honor Roll and earned her second USBWA National Player of the Week honor.

With 29 points against Oregon on March 1, Sellers earned her second Big Ten Honor Roll mention. The win also gave Washington 20 wins on the season and its first win in Eugene since 2016-17. Sellers became the first Husky with six or more 25-point outings since 2017-18 with the performance as well.

From the Big Ten Tournament onward, however, Sellers struggled to find her shot. She had 4 points on 0-for-5 shooting against USC in the first game of the conference tourney, although she was limited to 28 minutes while dealing with foul trouble. In all 40 minutes in a loss to eventual champion UCLA, she had 10 points on 3-for-11 from the field but added 8 assists.

Sellers was unusually passive against South Dakota State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, taking just 5 shots in 34 minutes and finishing with 4 points. She did tie her career high with 10 assists, however, allowing Avery Howell to take over the game and lead Washington to the second round. Sellers led the Huskies with 18 points in an overtime loss to TCU, but went just 7-of-22 from the field and once again dealt with foul trouble.

Going into her senior season, Sellers will again be expected to carry the load offensively for Washington. While both Howell and freshman big Brynn McGaughy flashed ample offensive potential this season, neither is a particularly ball-dominant player offensively, so Sellers’ usage rate will remain high.

Defensively, the 5-foot-7 Sellers will always be limited due to her size, but Washington will need her to improve the discipline on that end to avoid fouling herself out of games. She did improve on that from her sophomore season, fouling out only four times compared to six in 2024-25 and committing 9 fewer fouls overall.

Sellers set new bests in minutes per game, field goal percentage, free throw percentage, rebounds per game, blocks, and points per game in 2025-26. That trend should improve in 2026-27, which would imply Sellers turning into a roughly 20-point per game scorer. If Washington can extract that from her while developing Howell, McGaughy, and the rest of their talented young roster, the Huskies should be expected to host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament next season.

Sellers is also on the verge of joining Washington’s career history books. 600 points or so as a senior would put her fourth all-time in program history, with an outside shot of catching third-place Jamie Redd if Sellers scores 665 on the year. That would require another 220 field goals or so, which would get Sellers within striking distance of second place all-time. Another 130-assist season would put her fourth all-time in that category as well, with a big gap to Plum in third. A particularly good season from three could get her into the top-10 all-time in percentage from deep.

Sellers should be a preseason All-Big Ten first- or second-team selection and is currently projected as a late-first round pick in the 2027 WNBA draft.
